2010 Spotlight! On Business Awards |

Six Spotlight! On Business award winners, including the newly added category, “Veteran-Owned,” and a special community award were announced at the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber’s awards luncheon on June 22, 2010. Winners emerged from a pool of 18 finalists (who were all recognized at the June 22 celebration). Also new this year is the re-naming of the awards with recent and/or popular movie titles.
The following are award recipients:
Small Business – “The Incredibles” Award:
Tacoma Rainiers Baseball Club
A Triple-A Affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, Tacoma Rainiers provide affordable fun, family entertainment through professional baseball. They have seen a 141% increase in ticket sales revenue in three and a half seasons of baseball Attendance records were set last year with over 350,000 fans entering the gates. Sponsorship revenues have doubled since 2006, and a 30-year lease extension which will keep baseball in Tacoma through the 2040 season and beyond. These milestones and the announcement of a major renovation
of Cheney Stadium will keep fans coming back for more baseball.
Medium Sized Business – “Iron Man 2” Award:
Adriatic Grill Italian Cuisine & Wine Bar
With a major remodel of the former Cucina Cucina restaurant, newcomers to the restaurant industry, Bill and Monique Trudnowski, owners of Adriatic Grill, take great pride in offering a Tacoma restaurant with great food (Chef Bill’s secret Adriatic Seasoning), beverage and service.
Large Business – “Avatar” Award:
Mountain Construction
Mountain Construction provides comprehensive construction and development services for commercial, industrial and institutional projects, primarily in the private sector. They help clients reach their goals through “teamwork, superior craftsmanship, safety-first work practices, and absolute dedication to high-quality, cost-effective construction.”
Non-Profit Organization – “UP” Award:
Tacoma Community House
From humble beginnings in 1910 with two employees, Tacoma Community House has grown to 50 full-time employees and a budget of $4.2 million. Tacoma Community House has educated thousands of children, youth, and adults; helped thousands to find employment; and helped thousands of people obtain their citizenship.
Minority-owned Business – “Transformers” Award:
Lile Moving & Storage
Currently owned and operated by the daughters of founder Wendell B. Lile, Lile Moving & Storage is certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council as a Woman-owned Business. Serving the
Pacific Northwest
for over 50 years, Lile has grown from five employees in 1959 to over 265 full-time employees.
Veteran-Owned Business – “Top Gun” Award:

Owner and CEO Darrel Bowman, a disabled Veteran, is heavily involved in the community and serves on Congressman Adam Smith’s Technology Advisory Council Committee; and is current Chairman of the South Puget Sound IT and Emerging Technology Skills Panel, among others.
Community Driver – “Lord of the Rings” Award:

During construction, approximately 1.4 million cubic yards of material were moved to shape Chamber Bay Course, managed by KemperSports Management. Since breaking ground just a few years ago,

was awarded the 2010 U.S. Amateur and 2015 U.S. Open Championships by the United States Golf Association. This year’s Amateur takes place on August 23rd through 29th, and will be televised nationally by the Golf Channel and NBC. The U.S. Open is arguably the most prestigious event in golf and the event is expected to generate over $100 million dollars in economic activity for the region.
